Sociology May 3-6

This week we continue our unit on the sociology of education by watching an amazing Indian film, “Like Stars on Earth.” This film addresses a variety of issues regarding education and how students are affected by their school environments. As usual, you will have a graded discussion on the film so you need to create discussion questions as you watch the film that address the issues we have addressed in this unit.

P.E Class this week May 3-6, 2016

I Would like to remind parents to send your children dressed in an appropriate way for the days that they have P.E.class:

– No dresses for the girl

– No jeans

– No crocks

– No Sandals

– No boots

-No Converse(All Stars)

Children who are not wearnig the appropriate clothing will not be allowed to participate in P.E class.

Goals:  We will use the word R. E. S. P. E. C. T. to set the main goals for the year.

R – Right to Learn – Every child has this right to be educated!

E – Effort – Win or lose, trying is the most important trait.

S – Safety – The number one priority each and every day!

P – Purpose – Understanding how the activity can benefit you.

E – Enthusiasm – Positive energy creates a positive environment!

C – Challenge – Challenge yourself to improve each day.

T – Trust/Teamwork – Work with and trust others, the result can be amazing!

Rules:

Have fun!

No candy/food/gum!

Positive attitudes!

Tenth Grade

During this week,we will have a review of all the sports that are concerned with the synthetic soccer field.

This way the students will have a better understanding in sports such as: hockey and dodgeball.

Groundwater Lab: 40 Points Total
Introduction: Define groundwater and aquifer. Describe how water is transferred here and its relationship with other water compartments. Describe how water pollutants enter groundwater and how they can be transferred between water compartments. Describe how we can access groundwater. (10 points)
Procedure: Describe the procedures for Activities 2, 3 and, 5 (Scenario #2). (5 point)
Data: Use tables and lists to give all qualitative data. (5 points)
Conclusion: Answer all questions for Activities 2, 3, and 5 (both Scenario #1 and #2). (20 points)

Poisoning of a Town:
1) What is causing the problem with the Flint water supply?
2) What health problems does this substance cause?
3) What is causing the leeching of this substance into the water supply?
4) How long did it take for government officials to respond to the issues with the Flint water supply?
5) Why is this issue seen as a “racial crime”?

SSL – Spanish as a Second Language

Concluding with the celebration of  Día del Idioma Español celebrated last Friday 22nd.(Saturday, April 23)

…on this week, students will focus on Spanish proverbs, adages, sayings, etc. Including these in their writing and short presentations.
Always paying close attention to grammar rules of punctuation, such as 
‘acentos,’ quotation marks, commas, hyphens, parenthesis, and dashes. 
Students will have short presentation everyday, an 
on-the-spot,  3 minute presentation 
with two minutes for preparation.

Hard Edge Painting

Hard-edge painting is painting in which abrupt transitions are found between color areas. Color areas are often of one unvarying color. The Hard-edge painting style is related to Geometric abstraction.

Objective:

Students will be creating a Hard-edge style painting using acrylic paint on canvas.
